Welcome

The Children's Room helps grieving children, teens and families in our community to go on living fully.

We serve families from over 75 cities and towns in Massachusetts.  We are also part of a Massachusetts-wide network of programs helping grieving children, teens and families.  Contact us to learn about programs serving your area or how you can help grieving children, teens and families.

What's New:

Ever wonder what The Children's Room is about?  Or, maybe you know about us, but want to tell others.  We have a schedule of "Tour and Tells" throughout the summer.  It is a short, 45 minute tour that not only gives information on The Children's Room but also provides helpful information about grieving children and teens. Contact us to find out when the next tour is taking place.

Another successful season of our The Children's Room Teen Performance Troupe is coming to a close.  Join us to celebrate this great show, our great performers and Shelly Steward our talented troupe leader who is graduating from college and headed off to Teach for America. The final performance is Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 4 pm to 6pm at the Kraft Theater at Belmont Hill School.  We thank Belmont Hill School for generously donating the use of the theater and their staff.

Do you know a college student that is coping with the serious illness of a family member or is grieving the death of someone close?  Refer them to the National Students of Ailing Mothers and Fathers (AMF).  Watch this video about the founder of AMF.  Visit their website for good resources and chapter info.

Over forty professionals came to The Children's Room to view the national webcast of the Hospice Foundation's program Living with Grief: Children and Adolescents. Thanks to all who participated in this program.

Have you seen the Hospice Foundation Blog? Our board member, Phyllis Silverman's work was recently featured in an interview with her co-director. In addition to that interview, we always enjoy Elizabeth Uppman's posts.  Her most recent one is But That's Not How It Happened On TV!

In the category: "I wish someone had told me".  We spent some time recently with a mom whose teenager died, and I was reminded of this wonderful article about how the simplest things in life can be difficult. "Mrs. Buttersworth" is a short story that has been featured in The Compassionate Friends newsletter and elsewhere.  A mom writes about how hard it was to go to the grocery store after her son's death.

Congratulations to our colleagues at The Carriage House in Worcester for receiving the Community Impact Award from the Central Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
